Putting this as politely as possible, audience members being rude about GOTY is the main thing that spoils the fun. For them as well. Dont do it. Its been a very positive experience so far, lets work to maintain that.

To be less polite, Abby played perhaps the most games of all of them! She consistently hit all the big releases and niche stuff other people didnt touch. Only Ben was comparable in how broad they were, maybe Dan. And shes literally streaming Demons Souls right now. You are showing your true colours by targeting her. And you know this was a point she was harassed about. Either drop your stupid grudge or dont post in these topics. The absolute worst thing about bring a Giant Bomb fan.

Also, Ben was extremely clear that him leaving had nothing to do with the purchase and this makes sense as otherwise he would have left with Abby and a bunch of other CBSi employees who left (or were laid off) rather than go to Red Ventures. Theres a huge amount of transparency from both of them on why they decided to leave, yet you have trolls making up their own reasons because theyre not satisfied with the truth! Also it has been said that they are getting a studio in NY Im fairly sure.

Id say Id like to see the version of GB that exists in BTs head since hes clearly out of touch with the real one, but that would probably be depressing.

Oh Flight Simulator deserves it for the weather stuff alone, its an incredible achievement thats never been done before. There is also a very high level of fidelity on top of the tech. All that stuff will change how games can look. It was absolutely my winner. I think they got the right top 3, at first I was surprised to see Hades go, but after seeing the shortlist of 6 it was just a really tough category.

Yeah, this is the thing - it is Action Horror instead of just Horror, and Id really recommend Dead Space 1 over 2 for you as well judging from that. Its still Action Horror, of course, but more 50/50 than the 70/30 split Dead Space 2 has. Which of course brings with it a more even pace, more resource scarcity and so on. If you want to order that era of third person Action Horror games from least to most actiony it would probably go like this:

Dead Space - Resident Evil 4 - Dead Space 2 - Resident Evil 5 - Dead Space 3

With Resident Evil 6 attempting to occupy all places at once and failing at each of them.

Also, an addendum to my mention of Titanfall 2 - that was an EA Original, basically an independent game published by EA (before they bought Respawn), so it is in a sense not really an EA game. The good EA era basically ends with Dead Space 2.

I will say that I think the first two Dead Space games are excellent. From everything you said it sounds like the first game would be more your speed though, particularly in regards to pacing. Dead Space 2 is the Aliens to the first games Alien, and I think that escalation of scale and action (while keeping the horror roots) is a part of why fans of the first game liked the second so much. If youre coming to it looking for a horror game though, it might not work on its own.

Also this was like, the last great EA game for nearly 6 years until Titanfall 2, and that didnt even make the bracket! Dead Space 2 is kind of the last remnant of that era when EA was actually an interesting publisher.

The number of categories is largely irrelevant. There were a load of five minute filler categories and they made up categories on the fly to hit an arbitrary target number. Id rather ~10 categories of the quality (and length) of this last one to 20 with 10 filler categories.

Starcraft II, ME2, and Civ V as well! Id say the Dead Space 2 response has been largely positive from what Ive read? It doesnt seem to be to do with Western AAA.

I think the games that havent landed, aside from maybe Red Dead, are just products of their time. Halo Reach and Blops have aged. Heavy Rain was always very poorly written and acted, it just coasted on novelty until it got obsoleted by the likes of The Walking Dead and Life is Strange which are actually good. I think in 2010 in particular we see a lot of games that feel old, because not only are they, but they are carrying on the traditions of the previous decade as well. That will shift as this goes on.

I think VLR is the best of the series because of the way it manages to spin the story in all of these directions convincingly, even if it is able to do that in part because it doesnt need to wrap everything up. ZTD largely works for the same reason, and its impressive that it basically wraps everything up in a way that is consistent with the series if a bit inelegant.

I have an unironic love for ZTD, and it pulls off everything it tries to do, albeit with colossal amounts of sweeping certain details under the rug. It wobbles, but it actually manages to land a ridiculously complex story successfully.

The camera thing is fine because there are glimpses, the shadows, and so on. It makes sense that it would only be those glimpses since why would he watch himself?

There are definitely some contrivances like the lack of saying Sean, but that works for me.

The Delta reveal unironically rules. I love storytelling in video games that uses perspective as a part of the story (like in 999), and it gives you a good amount of clues to whats going on, the biggest being all of the ways the characters react to Sean. The game isnt just making it up, its dangling it right in front of you. You can even hear his voice in the Q Team acid scene!

My issues with the story are more complex motive related.
